Combat scene practice.
So today's post is my first challenge to my self, one I hope I did well in. My goal was very simple in that I wanted to write a combat scene. One of the big things I struggle in writing is trying to do a exciting and enticing combat scene especially with multiple actors. So with that in mind I wanted to do something brief but also add in abit of a character I developed.
So today's writing is about Karen who read abit in are last post. She is again my own creation who lives in the Star Wars universe. One of the things I didn't get to play out in my rpg but wanted to write about is how she reacted when she was betrayed by her unit at the end of the war, and how she was captured by the enemy. I wanted to also try to express both abit of her and her style though I still think it needs some work but I thought in its current state it was a good call.
I also wanted to post a picture on the internet I found when I was originally picturing her, though this image is not mine I wanted to share it. After this we will get right to the scene.
Karen stood in what felt like a torrent of death. All around her stood enemies arranged against her in a perfect circle, every chance to escape blocked by another opponent. As she held her lightsaber in dual grip, the blue blade crackled as her sweet rolled off her skin and hit the saber. She stood motionless not sure how to react or how fate would throw her to this moment.
She closed her eyes for a moment letting her self catch her breath. The troopers around here in there perfect white armor didn't move a inch, these men had once served alongside her for years so she sensed there hesitation. These men who stood against her, these brave few who charged fearlessly into combat time and time again, for once hesitated at what to do next. The quiet was broken by a solider she knew a long time " General you know you can't escape, surrender now before there is more blood shed".
To her this man seemed to plead, not for his life but for hers. The sentiment wanted to make her sick and she gave into her anger " Now you ask me to surrender after all you've done?". Her eyes opened and then locked on the clone who spoke. " Now after my follow wardens and knights are all but dead you ask now for me to surrender?' her voice grew louder.
She casually switched her grip, instead of the tight gripe she casually held her blade to one side. Her gaze though didn't change " I will not surrender, not now nor ever traitors". The soilder shook his head then raised his weapon at her, he spoke in his crisp voice " Then die!".
In perfect unison the troopers raised there weapons and opened fire. Karen didn't miss a beat and dipped her body towards the ground. The first volley of shots missed her completely, even hitting some of the troopers. They tried to adjust there aim as she quickly ran to the closest one, her blue blade still at her side ready for the strike. As she closed the gap between her and the first trooper she brought the blade high aiming for his wrists. The light saber easily sliced through his wrists, the smell of burn't flesh and armor sizzled as the trooper screamed.
Ignoring him for now she moved to the next, coming at him like a lighting bolt. The troopers seemed to panic their firing much more wildly at her as they fought. Karen was swiftly on to the next trooper this time aiming for his torso. She sliced through it like a hot knife through butter, the trooper was split in two. Now the troopers where closer togther there commander seemed to rally them.
Karen assumed a defensive stance her blade infront of her sending shots away. Karen cursed at the troopers her anger more evident " I will cut you all down you bloody Traitors!". Normally in combat she was calm but now her blood ran hot. As she deflected the incoming fire she advanced, the troopers even behind there helemts knew fear. They know if she got close they where done for.
She could sense that desperation but even then what came next was a shock. As the squad kept up the fire the commander went for his pouch. He pulled out a small cylinder and from there she knew she might be done fore for it was a frag grenade. Time to slow as he used his thumb to quickly dislodge the pin, prepared to throw it at her.
Though she was almost spent she reached out with the force and pushed the troopers back. She watched as the bodies sprawled out as they where pushed away. Time seemed to slow down as she tried to move further away from the troopers. Her heart was beating almost like a count down for what came next.
Running as fast as she could, hoping to clear more distance. It just wasn't enough as the thunder clap of the grendie went off the explosion threw her towards the bulk head. Almost like a ragdoll she hit the steel with a loud bang, and then collasped to the floor. Her head ringing she looked at the mangled remains of the troopers.
There was nothing but mangled pace and a few limps. Struggling to get up she sat up right trying to regain a sense of self. Through the ringing and blurred vision she saw the outline of more troopers, the dread started to kick in. She wasn't going to make it out of it this time, her weary body wouldn't respond. Her time was up and there was nothing she could do.
